Local Planning Scheme No.3 - Amendment No.7 - Modification of Signage Requirements

The Town of Mosman Park has initiated the above Local Planning Scheme No.3 Amendment No.7. The Amendment proposes to modify Schedule 2 - Exempted Advertisements of the Scheme.

In Brief, the Town’s Scheme currently exempts all forms of signage on non-residential properties from the requirement to obtain a development approval. This means that there are no controls regarding the size, location, or number of signs that can be placed on any non-residential property within the Town. Without statutory controls there is potential for individuals to exploit the placement of signage on their properties for advertising purposes. The proposed Amendment seeks to rectify this by modifying the Scheme text to require signage to be exempted through the requirements of a Local Planning Policy.

The Policy will stipulate the various requirements for different signs, including how specific signage types may be exempted from development approval. Draft Local Planning Policy 26 - Signs & Advertising has been prepared to address the new provisions around signage within the Town.

Council adopted the Scheme Amendment at the December round of Council meetings. Th Scheme Amendment will be forwarded to the WA Planning Commission for final consideration.
