Local laws affect everyday life, from how we use public spaces to how businesses operate.
This year, we're reviewing our Local Laws to ensure they remain current and relevant to the evolving needs of our community.
Under section 3.16 of the Local Government Act 1995, local governments are now required to review each of their local laws at least once every 15 years, following amendments introduced by the Local Government Amendment Act 2024 that came into effect on 7 December 2024. This replaces the previous eight- year review cycle.
This process ensures that local laws:
Reflect current community needs and expectations
Align with state and federal legislation
Are enforceable and practical
Are not outdated or redundant
In addition, transitional provisions now require that any local law that is due or overdue for review must be reviewed within a two‑year period ending 7 December 2026, unless it has already been reviewed within the last eight years.
The Town of Mosman Park is now required to review multiple local laws in accordance with this requirement.
On 5 February 2026, the Town of Mosman Park gave public notice to propose to review the following local laws:
Your input helps shape fair and practical rules that reflect what matters to you.
Let us know whether you think the laws should be amended, repealed or left unchanged. This means:
• Amend - make minor changes to the local law in order to make it fairer or more accurate, or to reflect changing circumstances. If the recommendation to Council is to amend, the draft local law will be presented to Council for permission to advertise for further consultation.
• Repeal - to revoke or withdraw the local law formally if it is determined that it’s no longer fit for purpose. If the recommendation to Council is to repeal, the existing local law will be presented to Council for permission to advertise for further consultation.
• Leave unchanged – no change will be made; this means no further consultation is required.
Submissions about the review of the local laws can be made through the submission survey below by 5pm on 19 March 2026.
To submit feedback in writing or via email, please contact the Town.
