Delivering the vision for Glyde Street

The Glyde Street Streetscape Masterplan sets out a long-term vision to transform Glyde Street into a greener, more welcoming, and accessible town centre that supports local businesses and creates a vibrant place for the community to enjoy.

Following extensive community engagement, Council endorsed the Masterplan in 2025. The project has now moved into the delivery phase, with improvements to be implemented in stages.

Stage 1 construction 2026

Stage 1 construction is scheduled to commence on 17 August 2026 (subject to materials delivery) and will focus on improvements along the northern side of Glyde Street.

Works include:

  • New paving and widening of the northern footpath.
  • Installation of new bicycle racks outside Samsons Paddock.
  • Permeable paving, tree pits and new trees in front of 1 Glyde Street.
  • Additional street tree planting and verge improvements.

These works represent the first stage of delivering the endorsed Masterplan and are designed to improve pedestrian comfort, increase greenery and enhance the overall streetscape.

A staged approach

The Glyde Street Revitalisation will be delivered progressively over time. While Stage 1 focuses on improvements that can be delivered now, detailed design for future stages is continuing to support the implementation of the remaining elements of the endorsed Masterplan.

We'll continue to provide updates as key project milestones are reached, including future design progress, construction planning and upcoming works.

As part of our commitment to delivering a thorough and community-focused plan, the Town has incorporated additional processes to ensure we captured the best outcomes for the area.

    The additional processes included:

    • Targeted consultation with business owners from 31 March to 9 April 2025; and
    • Design Review Panel on 14 April 2025 to review and provide recommendations of the proposal.

The new steps have extended our original timeline; however they are considered essential to ensuring that the final streetscape masterplan for Glyde Street reflects the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders.

The Town is currently working with our consultants to respond to Aboriginal engagement outcomes, recommendations of the Design Review Panel and public submissions. There will be some changes to the plan as a result, however, a major re-design is not expected.

An update will be provided when the modified plans are finalised and due to be sent to council for final adoption. The Town anticipates a final decision for the July 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM).
