Why is the Tom Perrott playground being removed?

Typically, playgrounds are replaced when they have been assessed as part of an annual playground safety and conditions audit and determined as having reached the end of its useful life.  Playground renewals and replacements are considered based on age, safety, condition and demand. The Tom Perrott playground has come to the end of its useful life and therefore needs replacing.

How will the Town consider what meets the needs of current users?

The Town is seeking information from community members who regularly attend this playground about how they are currently using Tom Perrott. The first stage of this engagement is to ascertain who is currently utilising the space, why they choose this space, how they are using the space and how they anticipate using this space in the future.

This data will be collected via in situ signage at Tom Perrott playground linking stakeholders with a QR link to a short questionnaireThis engagement is just the first stage (stage 1.) of a staged engagement approach. Following stage 1.  review of this data will be undertaken by staff to inform future engagement stages. This information will also be used to inform the playground design. Once designs are received further consultation will be undertaken to choose the final design

Will the playground be replaced and what can we expect?

Yes, the playground will be replaced with a new playground within the allocated budget. Before a decision can be made on playground design, we are seeking to collect data about how the playground is currently being utilised, and how it might be utilised in the future. Once this data has been collated, we will progress to a second stage of engagement and invite community members to have their say on playground design options.

How is a design chosen and what happens next?

The Town will share the playground design options with Community members and invite you to vote for your favourite design during the next stage of engagement,  usually we are able to provide up to 3 options. Once the votes are in, the winning design is confirmed and  the Town will keep you up to date with information about expected removal and instalment dates.

How do I have my say?

We are seeking your feedback in 2 stages.

Stage 1. As a user of Tom Perrot Playground you can have your say by scanning the QR code and answering the short questionnaire here on YourSay

During Stage 2. (which will come at a later date) you will be invited to vote for your preferred playground design.

More information will be shared about stage 2 of this community engagement as this project progresses, watch this space!
