What is the Glyde Street Streetscape Masterplan?
The Glyde Street Streetscape Masterplan is a long-term plan to revitalise Glyde Street into a greener, more welcoming and accessible town centre. It provides a framework for future improvements to the street, including landscaping, pedestrian spaces, streetscape upgrades and public amenities, while supporting local businesses and enhancing the village character of Mosman Park.
Why does Glyde Street need a masterplan?
Glyde Street is one of the main gateways into Mosman Park and an important destination for residents, businesses and visitors.
The Masterplan builds on community feedback and previous planning undertaken since 2017 to create a safer, greener and more vibrant street that supports walking, local businesses and community life.
Who developed the Masterplan?
The Town of Mosman Park led the development of the Masterplan in partnership with PLACE Laboratory, with input from residents, businesses, stakeholders and the wider community. Following community consultation, the Masterplan was endorsed by Council in 2025.
What are the key objectives of the masterplan?
The Masterplan aims to:
Why is the project being delivered in stages?
The Glyde Street Revitalisation is a long-term project. Delivering the Masterplan in stages allows improvements to be carefully designed, coordinated and constructed while maintaining access to businesses and making the best use of available funding.
We'll continue to keep the community updated as future stages progress.
What does Stage 1 include?
Stage 1 focuses on improvements to the northern side of Glyde Street, including:
These works are the first stage in delivering the endorsed Masterplan.
Will parking be affected during Stage 1 construction?
Yes. While there will be some temporary impacts to parking during Stage 1, works have been planned to minimise disruption.
Construction will be carried out in sections, with only a small number of adjacent parking bays temporarily closed at any one time for the contractor's work area. As each section is completed, those bays will reopen before works move to the next area.
Will there be changes to footpaths, roads and crossings?
Yes. The Masterplan includes wider footpaths in key locations, safer pedestrian crossings, improved landscaping and streetscape upgrades designed to create a more comfortable and accessible environment for everyone.
As the project is delivered in stages, different improvements will be constructed over time.
How will the streetscape improvements support businesses?
Creating a greener, more attractive and accessible main street encourages people to spend more time in the town centre.
The Masterplan includes improved pedestrian spaces, additional seating, better lighting, more landscaping and enhanced streetscapes that will help create a welcoming destination for residents and visitors while supporting local businesses.
Will the completed project result in fewer parking bays on Glyde Street?
Maintaining convenient parking for businesses and visitors has been a key focus throughout the detailed design process.
Feedback from businesses and the community reinforced the importance of maintaining convenient parking in Glyde Street. That feedback continues to inform the detailed design process, with the Town working closely with civil designers to refine the layout and minimise impacts on on-street parking wherever possible, while still delivering the vision and objectives of the endorsed Masterplan.
Final parking arrangements are still being refined and will be confirmed once the detailed design is complete.
What role do trees and landscaping play in the project?
Greening is a key focus of the Masterplan.
Future stages include additional street trees, garden beds and water-sensitive landscaping that will provide more shade, improve biodiversity, help cool the street and create a more inviting public space.
How is the project being funded?
The Masterplan will be delivered over time through a combination of Town funding, external grant opportunities, developer contributions and other funding sources where available.
Delivering the project in stages allows the Town to progressively implement the Masterplan as funding becomes available.
