Local Planning Strategy
The Town of Mosman Park is preparing a Local Planning Strategy (LPS) that will identify the key actions it will undertake in planning for the future.
Having a clear plan to enhance liveability in Mosman Park will ensure we remain connected, healthy and inclusive well into the future.
Background
The Town’s existing LPS was endorsed in 2013.
Since this time, the Town has undertaken its Scheme Report of Review, which was endorsed by Mosman Park Council on 23 August 2022.
The Report of Review was subsequently endorsed by the Western Australia Planning Commission on 25 October 2022.
A copy of the Report of Review can be found on the Town’s website here. The review recommends preparation of a new Local Planning Scheme for the Town of Mosman Park.
Before making a new Local Planning Scheme or making significant changes to an existing one, an LPS is required.
An up-to-date LPS ensures that any planning changes - like proposals to amend the scheme or adjustments to local planning rules - are considered in a consistent manner and decisions are aligned to community priorities.
Project overview
The new LPS will be the Town’s long-term strategic land use and decision-making document and shall, in accordance with the Local Planning Strategy Guidelines:
- set out the long-term (15 years) planning directions for the local government
- apply any State or regional planning policy that is relevant to the strategy
- provide the rationale for any zoning, development investigation areas for future growth or classification of the land under the local planning scheme.
The new LPS, once endorsed, will inform the strategic planning direction for the Town including the preparation of a new Local Planning Scheme.
What's Next?
The draft Local Planning Strategy has been prepared, and was endorsed by Council at the 27 August 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, for the purpose of public advertising. The draft Strategy was subsequently forwarded to the Western Australian Planning Commission on 19 September 2024 for certification to advertise. Once this certification is received by the Town, then public advertising and associated consultation on the draft Strategy will commence.
